Seminoles’ Return Game Set for 2026 Breakthrough

Key return specialists and a new strategic focus aim to elevate Florida State’s special teams

Adam Scheier, who oversees Florida State’s special‑teams strategy, enters the 2026 season with a clear vision for the Seminoles’ return game. He believes the unit is already prepared to compete at a high level, citing a blend of experience and fresh talent.

Key Return Threats

At the heart of that confidence are two of the nation’s most potent kick returners: Micahi Danzy and Sam Singleton Jr. Danzy topped the country last season with six plays of at least 50 yards and averaged 21.15 yards per reception, while Singleton earned Freshman All‑America honors in 2024 after posting a 24.9‑yard average on kick returns and accumulating 406 yards in that role over three seasons.

The punt‑return depth chart adds another layer of versatility. In addition to Danzy and Singleton, the Seminoles can turn to veterans such as Duce Robinson, Jayvan Boggs, Devin Carter, Gemari Sands and Ja’Bril Rawls, while true freshman wide receiver Jasen Lopez has already shown poise and skill in limited action.

Scheier stresses that the coaching staff prioritizes possession over the occasional big play. “Possession is key,” he says, explaining that securing manageable down‑and‑distance situations will allow the offense to operate more efficiently and keep the defense fresh.

As the team moves into what coaches call ‘move week,’ the depth chart will continue to crystallize. Multiple players are expected to rotate on both kick and punt returns, giving the Seminoles flexibility to match up against varied opponents.
