Earlier in the year, under Thiaw's guidance, Senegal claimed the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Morocco, a victory that was later annulled by the Confederation of African Football after investigations revealed irregularities in the final match.
The World Cup campaign began with high hopes, but Senegal's journey unraveled when they squandered a 2‑0 lead against Belgium, ultimately losing 2‑1. The match marked a bitter end to a tournament that also saw the team survive narrow defeats to France and Norway in the group stage.
Appeal to the Court of Arbitration
Senegal has indicated it will lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking to overturn the CAF decision and to contest the disciplinary measures imposed on the coaching staff.
