Senior Baseball All-Star Rivals Game Returns to PNC Field

Top Lackawanna County seniors clash in charity fundraiser for Strike Out Cancer

A Milestone Game for Local Baseball

The 10th Field of Dreams Senior Baseball All-Star Rivals Game is set for Monday evening at PNC Field, where the top senior players from Lackawanna County will meet in a showcase of local talent. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5, with all proceeds earmarked for the Bill Howerton Strike Out Cancer initiative.

Two longtime coaches will lead the competing squads. Bill Zalewski, head coach at Abington Heights, will guide the Bombers, while Jamie Higgins of Scranton will captain the Fightins. Zalewski will also be coaching his son Reese for the final time, adding a personal dimension to the rivalry.

The rosters reflect the breadth of the county’s high school programs. The Bombers draw talent from Abington Heights, Mid Valley, Elk Lake, Dunmore, Honesdale, Old Forge, Lakeland, West Scranton and Western Wayne, while the Fightins feature players from Scranton, Riverside, Wallenpaupack, Scranton Prep, Valley View, North Pocono, Carbondale Area, Susquehanna, Lackawanna Trail and Blue Ridge. In total, 19 of the 24 Lackawanna League schools are represented.

Community Support and Legacy

Beyond the competition, the game serves as a community gathering that unites families, alumni and local businesses in support of a charitable cause that honors a legacy of perseverance. Organizers highlight the event’s role in fostering youth development and reinforcing the region’s rich baseball tradition.
