Seven football coaches at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, have resigned during an internal investigation that district officials say does not involve any students. The departures have reduced the coaching staff from eleven to four, just weeks before the team’s first matchup of the season.
Interim Leadership Takes the Helm
Cody Schumitsch, a longtime assistant, has been named interim head coach while the district works to fill the vacant positions. Administrators say additional coaches are being recruited to provide support and stability as the program moves forward.
Coach Shane Cohen, whose son is the team’s starting quarterback, said the departures have unexpectedly strengthened the locker room, fostering a tighter sense of unity among players and remaining staff.
Transparency Remains Limited
The West Allis‑West Milwaukee School District denied an open records request for details of the investigation, citing ongoing legal considerations. West Allis Police have confirmed they are not involved, leaving the matter squarely in the hands of district officials.
With the season opener scheduled for Friday against Kaukauna, the Huskies are set to take the field under a provisional leadership structure, hoping the new arrangement will translate into a competitive start.
