A delayed start turned into a breakthrough
Shai Buium entered his second full season with the Detroit Griffins after a preseason injury sidelined him for the first 32 games. He made his debut on January 9 against the Texas Stars, stepping onto the ice to a crowd eager to see the young defenseman finally in action.
Despite the late start, Buium quickly found his rhythm. He finished the regular season with 14 points, including a career‑high three goals and 11 assists across 36 appearances. Highlights included tying his personal best with two assists on February 7 versus the Charlotte Checkers and again on February 13 against Texas, and posting a three‑game point streak that stretched from early February through late February.
The blue‑liner also contributed in key moments, recording his only power‑play goal on February 27 against Iowa and reaching the 100‑game milestone for the Griffins on April 4 at the Manitoba Moose. Each of these markers underscored his growing importance within the organization.
