The Shaker flag football team’s season came to a close on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Cortland, where they fell 26-12 to Half Hollow Hills East in the Class A state final.
The game, played at Homer High School, marked the farthest any Section 2 program has ever advanced in the state playoffs, underscoring the team’s breakthrough performance.
A Historic Run
From the opening weeks of the season, Shaker displayed a blend of disciplined offense and relentless defense that carried them through a series of tightly contested victories. Their run to the championship game captured the imagination of local fans and highlighted the growing popularity of flag football in the region.
While the final score did not favor the Bison, the experience gained will likely shape the program’s future and inspire younger players to aspire to similar heights. The team’s achievement stands as a milestone for Section 2, proving that a small-market squad can compete on the statewide stage.
