Sharpsburg’s Kennedy Park Basketball Court Renamed to Honor Community Mentor Greg Domian

A June 28 ceremony will feature a debut game, music, food trucks and a half‑court shooting contest

A basketball court at Kennedy Park in Sharpsburg will be christened in honor of Greg Domian, a longtime community advocate, on June 28. The inaugural game will pit the Sharpsburg Wolves against the 412 Ambassadors, marking the first match on the newly renamed surface.

A Legacy on the Court

Domian, who spent decades coaching youth and mentoring teens, built one of the most successful diocesan basketball programs at St. Mary’s School before assuming leadership of the Sharpsburg Recreation Center, known locally as the Linden Gym. He revived a dormant athletic league in 2013, instituted an anti‑drug philosophy, and expanded after‑school tutoring that turned the gym into a safe haven for local youths.

The dedication ceremony, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., will feature live music, food trucks and a half‑court shooting contest, turning the event into a neighborhood festival. Domian, who requested that only his family name appear on the sign, has also helped coordinate the Open Streets festival, grown the Sharpsburg Fishing Derby, and earned a place in the Sharpsburg Sports Hall of Fame.

More than $100,000 in renovations have refreshed the Linden Gym, underscoring the lasting impact of Domian’s work. Community leaders, including members of the Sharpsburg Parks and Recreation Commission and the Sharpsburg/Aspinwall Rotary, will join the celebration, which will also highlight the court’s new name alongside the legacy of his brother, Pfc. Edward T. Domian Jr.
