On May 26, Sharyland High School gathered for a ceremony that marked a rare moment of celebration for its senior baseball players.
The event came just days after the team clinched a spot in the state semifinals, a victory that had originally collided with the school's regular graduation schedule.
Superintendent Dr. Elaine Howard, who spearheaded the special gathering, explained that the ceremony was meant to recognize the athletes' hard work and dedication.
A milestone on and off the field
The gymnasium was transformed with decorations, a playlist of favorite songs, and a palpable sense of pride as families and staff filled the stands.
Eight seniors — Santiago Balderas Valdes, Luis Cienfuegos Galvan, Mateo Garcia, Daniel Hinojosa, Sergio Ibarra Acosta, Rogelio Rodriguez, Santiago Soto and Nicolas Valdez Garza — were honored during the rite.
Each of them now looks ahead to the next chapter of their baseball careers, with Luis Cienfuegos Galvan and Rogelio Rodriguez heading to Cisco College, Sergio Ibarra Acosta and Santiago Soto joining Navarro College, and Nicolas Valdez Garza committing to Texas A&M University‑Kingsville.
The Rattlers' journey continues as they prepare for a best‑of‑three series against Kingwood Park in San Antonio, a matchup that will decide which team advances to the state championship game scheduled for June 5 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Dr. Howard emphasized the close‑knit bond that has defined the squad, noting that their loyalty to the Sharyland name has been a cornerstone of their success.
The ceremony not only marked the end of a high school chapter but also underscored the bright futures that await these young athletes.
