Shawnee Heights baseball clinched its third straight regional championship on May 20, edging Lansing 3-2 in a tightly contested game that kept the team’s state tournament hopes alive.
Early offensive burst
The Titans exploded for two runs in the opening inning, with Gabe Escobar and Cayden Lindsay driving in the first scores, setting the tone for the match.
Lansing answered in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that halved the deficit, but the Heights’ pitching staff steadied the game.
Brady Cooper delivered 5.2 innings on the mound, allowing just five hits and one earned run, while reliever Gabe Escobar tossed 1.1 shutout frames, striking out two.
The victory marks the third consecutive regional crown for the program, a streak that has propelled the team into the Class 5A State Tournament for the first time in recent memory.
Coach Trone Purvis praised the collective effort, noting the contributions of Camden Olson, Liam Keating and the entire roster in a post‑game interview.
Earlier that same day, Shawnee Heights had routed Highland Park 12‑0, a performance that underscored the team’s depth and offensive firepower.
The Titans will now travel to the state tournament, where they aim to translate their regional dominance into a championship run.
