A Season of Excellence
The 2026 All‑County baseball team for Shelby County was compiled after a season that saw several programs advance deep into the playoffs, making the final selections a tough exercise for coaches and voters alike.
Spain Park emerged as a state runner‑up, and its roster was heavily represented on the All‑County list, featuring Connor Greb, who earned North‑South All‑Star and All‑State First Team honors, as well as Rhys Jones, who captured the county batting title with a .415 average and 1.266 OPS.
Briarwood and Thompson also made strong runs, with Briarwood’s Houston Hartsfield posting an 8‑1 record and a 1.40 ERA, while Thompson’s Wyatt Williams finished 7‑3 with a 1.97 ERA and a .351 batting average.
Other notable contributors included Cooper Pennington of Shelby County, a two‑sport All‑State pick who batted .395, and freshman Bryant Wisdom from Chelsea, who posted a .347 average and 1.044 OPS.
Pitchers such as Grant Hill from Chelsea posted a 2.82 ERA while limiting opponents to a .169 average, and Hudson Franks of Spain Park posted a 0.89 ERA, underscoring the dominance of arms across the county.
The depth of talent was further highlighted by players like Silas Osbourn of Chelsea, who recorded 43 strikeouts in 31 innings, and Austin Barnett of Thompson, who earned All‑State Honorable Mention honors with a 1.40 ERA and .920 OPS.
The final list also recognized a host of additional standouts, from Kade Brantley’s .337 average to Xander Hughes’s .315 mark, reflecting a competitive environment that left many deserving athletes just outside the cut.
