The fourth annual Shoulder Check Awareness game will light up Sacred Heart University’s Martire Family Arena on July 30, bringing together fans, players and community members for a night that blends competition with remembrance.
This summer showcase features National Hockey League talent drawn from 13 different teams and represents a dozen countries, underscoring the event’s growing national footprint.
A Summer Tradition Grows
The game was created to honor Darien native Hayden Thorsen, a promising teenage hockey player who died by suicide at the age of 16. His story has resonated across the sport, prompting conversations about mental health and the pressures faced by young athletes.
Pregame festivities begin at 6 p.m., when arena doors open to reveal a beer garden, a midway of family‑friendly activities and a special Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit that celebrates the region’s rich hockey heritage.
Tickets for the charity matchup are priced at $100 each and can be purchased through Ticketmaster, with proceeds earmarked for local mental‑health initiatives and youth hockey programs.
The action will be televised live on the NHL Network, with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 p.m. after the arena doors open, giving viewers a front‑row view of the on‑ice showdown.
