A Quiet End to a Young Season
The Sigourney‑Keota soccer squad traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, where they faced Grandview Christian in the opening round of the Class 1A District Tournament. The match unfolded at the Cownie Soccer Complex, a venue that has hosted many of the state’s youth championships.
Grandview Christian came out strong, building a 3‑0 lead by halftime. The final whistle confirmed a 5‑1 victory for the opposition, ending the Sigourney‑Keota campaign with a 2‑11 record.
Despite the loss, the team’s season was marked by perseverance. Both of their wins came against Highland, a testament to the resilience shown by a roster that will lose six seniors to graduation.
The graduating seniors — Gavin Khali, Addison Purkeypile, Wells Clark, Jackson Vittetoe, Chase Haifley and Ty Goldman — were instrumental in the team’s efforts throughout the year. Their departure leaves a void that the remaining players hope to fill in the coming seasons.

Coach and teammates alike are already turning their attention to the next chapter, focusing on developing younger talent and building on the moments of success that defined the year.
