The Sioux Falls Family YMCA and Empower Sioux Falls announced today that Sioux Falls Neighborhood Soccer will officially become a YMCA program, marking a new phase for a community initiative that has been delivering soccer, meals and mentorship to children in Title I neighborhoods since 2021.
Expanding Access to Play and Nutrition
Participants will receive free soccer balls, shin guards, uniforms, nutritious meals and certified coaching, removing financial barriers that often keep families from joining organized sports. The program targets children in Title I neighborhoods, ensuring that every youngster has the opportunity to play.
Callie Schock and James Oppenheimer, key leaders in the partnership, emphasized the shared vision of using sport and nutrition to foster health, teamwork and community pride. By combining the YMCA’s extensive network with Empower Sioux Falls’ grassroots expertise, the collaboration will broaden reach across the city and create a sustainable model for youth engagement.
