Former LSU Shreveport Coach Brings Championship Pedigree and International Experience

Charleston Southern University announced this week that Sirena “Pnut” Tuitele has been appointed as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team, a move that adds a seasoned professional with a winning track record to the program.

A Proven Winner at LSU Shreveport

During her tenure at Louisiana State University Shreveport, Tuitele guided the team to a 28‑5 season and captured multiple conference championships, a feat that included four All‑Conference selections and a Player of the Year honoree.

Her coaching journey also includes stints abroad, where she played professionally in Finland, Australia and Spain, and a collegiate career at the University of Colorado and the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned numerous academic and athletic accolades.

Looking Ahead

In 2023, Tuitele participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “So You Want To Be A Coach” development program, and she recently completed a master’s degree in Cultural Studies and Sport at California, following a bachelor’s in psychology from Colorado. Expressing her enthusiasm, she said she is eager to contribute to a culture built on faith, family and competitive excellence, and she looks forward to helping the Buccaneers rise to new heights.

Athletic Director Tim Hays praised Tuitele’s blend of experience and character, noting that her appointment aligns with the program’s long‑term vision and reinforces the university’s commitment to excellence on and off the court.
