SIUE’s men’s basketball program has announced the addition of Belal Sohaib Mabrouk, a 6‑foot‑7 forward whose résumé reads like a miniature basketball odyssey.

Mabrouk honed his craft with Al Ahly Sporting Club in Cairo, guiding the club’s youth teams to a string of U16, U18 and U20 Egyptian championships and earning MVP honors along the way.
His defensive intensity, rebounding prowess and shot‑blocking instincts have made him a standout on the senior circuit, while his leadership was on full display as captain of Egypt’s U18 national side.
The coming August will see him represent his country at the FIBA Africa U18 Championship in the Ivory Coast, a tournament that follows a recent stint at the FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey and a selection to the Basketball Without Borders Africa Camp, where he was named an All‑Star.
Mabrouk cited the Cougars’ coaching staff, the existing roster and the school’s culture of hard work, competition and sacrifice as the primary reasons for his decision.
Head Coach Brian Barone praised the newcomer, noting that Mabrouk’s character aligns perfectly with SIUE’s values of determination and problem‑solving, and that his versatility should bolster the team’s depth immediately.
