SIUE Men’s Soccer Prepares for a Make-or-Break 2026 Campaign

A blend of fresh talent and seasoned veterans aims to reclaim the Ohio Valley Conference crown after a challenging previous season

The SIUE men's soccer program is gearing up for a 2026 season that promises both renewal and challenge. After finishing last year with a 6‑11‑2 record and missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022, the team is determined to turn the tide.

Coach Cale Wassermann has assembled a squad that blends 14 fresh faces with 11 veterans, a mix he says is essential for rebuilding. Among the newcomers are forwards Brady Cochrane, Amos Boum Nlend and midfielder Kevaughn Harris, while January additions Louis Kreuger, Grant Locker and Anthony Faupel add depth to the midfield.

Returning stalwarts such as Archie McDonnell, Bobby Pauly, Dan Murray and Mathias Clausen provide continuity, with senior Evan Howard leading the scoring charts from last year with eight goals and three assists.

A demanding road schedule

The schedule will test the unit early, beginning with a home opener against Saint Louis University in the Bronze Boot rivalry at Korte Stadium, followed by road trips to face UMKC, Michigan State and Michigan.

Wassermann emphasizes transition play and selfless teamwork, hoping those principles will translate into a resurgence that puts the program back in contention for the Ohio Valley Conference title it captured in back‑to‑back years before last season.

Culture and competition

Training sessions have been built around competitive drills that reward unselfish movement, aiming to forge a collective identity that can withstand a tough road slate. The coaching staff believes that by prioritizing teamwork and disciplined transition play, the team can develop the culture needed to compete for the conference championship.
