Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s women’s basketball program is poised to welcome a new talent for the 2026‑27 season, reinforcing its ambition to sustain momentum after a successful 2025‑26 campaign.
A Strategic Boost for the Cougars
Head Coach Samantha Quigley Smith announced the addition of transfer Giselle Dogan, a 5‑foot‑7 guard whose two‑year stint at Jessup University in Rocklin, California, delivered solid offensive production and defensive reliability.
During her sophomore year, Dogan averaged 9.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc and converting 78 percent of her free‑throw attempts, statistics that underscore her shooting efficiency and clutch performance.
Coach Quigley Smith highlighted that Dogan’s proven track record of consistency aligns with the team’s tactical goals, noting that her versatility will add depth to the backcourt.
Looking Forward
The Cougars concluded the 2025‑26 season with 16 victories and a second‑round appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, a milestone that has raised expectations for the upcoming year.
Dogan will become the sixth newcomer to the roster, joining the four early signees — Brooke Blakenship, Jayla McClinton, Alex Nicastro and Taylor Trame — who were announced in November, creating a blended mix of experience and fresh energy.
With a blend of seasoned transfers and returning players, the team aims to maintain its upward trajectory and contend for a conference title in the 2026‑27 season.
