Front Office Restructuring
The Philadelphia 76ers announced a significant shake‑up in their basketball operations on Monday, promoting longtime lieutenant Jameer Nelson to executive vice president of basketball operations, the second‑most senior role in the franchise’s front office.
Mike Gansey, who previously served as general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, was hired to replace the departing president of basketball operations, taking the reins of the team’s decision‑making hub.
A Strategic Shift
Alongside the moves, Prosper Karangwa, the former assistant GM of the Delaware Blue Coats, signed a multi‑year extension that secures his place in the organization’s growing analytics and player development pipeline.
Elton Brand, who held the general manager title since 2018 and reported to Daryl Morey for the past two seasons, will not return to that role but will transition into a newly created position that blends strategic oversight with community engagement.
Nelson, a former NBA point guard who joined the Sixers in 2020 as a scout and later served as assistant GM of the Delaware Blue Coats, expressed deep appreciation for Brand’s mentorship, noting that the promotion reflects a decade‑long journey of incremental responsibility.
The organization will host an introductory press conference for Gansey on Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, where the new leadership structure is expected to be detailed.
