A rocky start to the season
The Skyridge girls soccer team opened its campaign at home against Olympus, only to fall 3‑0 on August 4, 2026. The Titans struck early, adding a second before halftime and sealing the third in the second half, leaving the Falcons with a steep learning curve.
Two days later the squad traveled to face Desert Hills, where a solitary goal in the first half proved enough for a 1‑0 defeat. The pattern continued against Crimson Cliffs on August 7, with a 1‑0 loss that saw no scoring in the opening period, and then a narrow 2‑1 setback to Snow Canyon on August 8, despite junior midfielder Hallee Sheffield opening the scoring for the Falcons.
Learning from elite competition
Coach Jhoan Alvizo has repeatedly emphasized that the pre‑season schedule is designed to pit the team against the finalists and semifinalists from the previous year. “Those games are a litmus test,” Alvizo said, “they help us refine our skills and shape our identity on the field.”
The upcoming fixtures promise another test. Skyridge is slated to host Mountain View on August 14 at 7 p.m., followed by a road trip to Davis on August 18 at 3:30 p.m., matches that will further gauge the team’s progress against regional opponents.
While the early results have been humbling, the coaching staff remains focused on building a cohesive unit. The experience gained from facing top‑tier opponents is expected to translate into stronger performances as the season unfolds.
