Rescheduling in Response to Air Quality
Slippery Rock University announced that its flag football skill‑development camp, originally set for July 16, will now take place on July 27 at Mihalik‑Thompson Stadium. The shift comes after forecasts of deteriorating air quality forced the administration to prioritize the health of participants.
The one‑day event, aimed at high school girls entering grades eight through twelve, will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with registration opening at 5 p.m. The $75 registration fee includes a commemorative t‑shirt and snacks for attendees.
Camp Curriculum
Head coach Lisa Horton, who was named the program’s inaugural leader earlier this year, will oversee the camp alongside members of the Pittsburgh Passion women’s flag football professional team. Their instruction will emphasize technique, fundamentals, speed, agility, and position‑specific drills.
Participants can expect a curriculum that blends classroom‑style technique sessions with on‑field skill stations, culminating in a competitive play segment where campers are divided into teams. Only cleats, a mouthpiece and flags are required to take part.
Registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time on July 26, and interested players are encouraged to submit a recruiting questionnaire if they wish to be considered for the university’s upcoming varsity flag football team, which will begin competition in the 2027‑28 academic year.
