A Perfect Home Start
SMU entered the match after a 5‑1 victory over UIW that showcased a potent offense and a stingy defense, outscoring opponents 7‑1 in all home games this term. Star forward Brooke Bunton leads the attack with three goals and six total points, while midfielders Kamiya Beck and Julianne Richter have each contributed three assists.
Coach Nicole Nelson, who is closing in on her 100th career win, will look to add another milestone to her résumé as the team blends experience with a wave of fresh talent. The roster includes 17 newcomers, ten of them freshmen, who are expected to inject energy into the lineup.
Looking Ahead to a Challenging ACC slate
The Mustangs are slated to meet several top ACC programs, including Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Virginia and Texas Tech, after being ranked eighth in the conference for goals and fourth for assists in preseason polls. Their early performance has already earned votes in the Week 1 IWSOC/United Soccer Coaches Poll, the first such recognition since 2022.
