SNHU Penmen Hockey Looks to Bounce Back with New Coach and Fresh Talent

After a challenging 2025‑26 season, the Penmen aim for renewal under Coach Brooks McQuade and promising newcomer Nolan Nemecek.

A New Era for the Penmen

The Penmen finished the 2025‑26 campaign with a 5‑14‑1 record, their worst performance since the 2011‑12 season, prompting the university to seek fresh direction for the program.

In early October, administrators placed Anthony Fallacaro and Sean Walsh on administrative leave, while Tricia Cote was appointed interim director of athletics and recreation to oversee the transition.

McQuade Takes the Helm

Brooks McQuade was named permanent head coach on April 6, 2026, bringing with him a decade of experience at Tilton School, where he had served as an instructor since 2010.

Before McQuade’s appointment, Chris Moquin and Matt Osgood served as interim head coaches, stabilizing the squad during the interim period.

Alumni in the Pro Ranks

Alumni Jake Cox, who completed his collegiate career between 2018 and 2022, recently turned professional with the newly formed Baton Rouge Kingfish of the FPHL after a stint with the defunct Baton Rouge Zydeco.

A Promising Freshman

Incoming freshman Nolan Nemecek showed a dramatic rise, nearly quadrupling his point total from 12 to 53 during his final junior season with the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The core of the team remains largely intact, with only five graduating seniors and no reported transfers, and the Penmen plan to return to the historic Snake Pit on March 28 as they look to build on the new recruits and a refreshed coaching staff.
