The Somersworth High School boys soccer squad kicked off its season in convincing fashion, routing Inter‑Lakes 4‑0 in a Division III matchup on Tuesday. Freshman forward Dillon Murgatroy stole the spotlight with a hat trick, while Tyler Runions added a goal and Harun Karim contributed two assists. Goalkeeper Lincoln Godzik secured a clean sheet with five saves, preserving the shutout.
Coach Mike McCormick praised the balanced attack, noting that the team’s depth was on full display as six different players found the net. The win sets an early tone for a squad that appears poised to contend in the upcoming schedule.
Dover's Green Wave dominates Division I opener
Across town, the Dover Green Wave also opened its campaign with a decisive Division I triumph over Nashua North. Hannah Calhoun led the offense with three goals, while Molly Angers chipped in two and Scarlett Gray earned the shutout in goal. Additional markers came from Mya Kageleiry, Ella Deroy, Kate Daley, Lauren Lagasse, Kate Zbikowski and Riley Newbury, each adding a single tally.
St. Thomas Aquinas golf team sweeps four‑team match
The early success continued for the St. Thomas Aquinas golf team, which swept a four‑team meet with a collective score of 197. Senior Nick Shaheen paced the squad, but the depth of the roster was evident as Ryan Allard and Jack Weigold each shot a 39, Finn Perry a 40, Cooper Coate a 41, Kendall Wishart a 42, Griffin Rendall a 45 and Grant Baker a 46.
