Camp Highlights
The Oklahoma Sooners concluded a vigorous preseason camp in Norman, where coaches used the final days to assess health status and evaluate positional battles. While several players exited practice due to minor injuries, the overall tone remained optimistic as key contributors returned to full activity.
Trell Harris, who had been limited by a minor setback earlier in the offseason, was a full participant in drills on Friday. The sophomore underwent a surgical cleanup procedure in the spring and is expected to play a major role after earning All-ACC honors in his debut season.
At the running back position, Lloyd Avant has taken the lead in the competition, showcasing burst and vision during practice. Freshman Jonathan Hatton Jr. has also drawn praise for his agility and receiving skill set, positioning him as a potential spark plug for the backfield.
Injuries forced a handful of veterans off the field, including linebackers Jacob Curry, Taylor Heim, Beau Jandreau and Kristian Moore, as well as offensive lineman Daniel Akinkunmi, who was no longer using a scooter. Their departures underscored the physical toll of the camp but also opened opportunities for backups to step up.
The starting offensive line for the upcoming season is taking shape with Michael Fasusi, Eddy Pierre-Louis, Jake Maikkula, Ryan Fodje and E’Marion Harris slated to protect the quarterback. Veteran safety Peyton Bowen led stretches and broke out with a series of hard hits during Friday’s session, reinforcing his leadership role in the secondary.
General manager Jim Nagy was on hand to closely observe new position coach Deland McCullough and the running backs, while Xavier Robinson completed the day’s work after Tory Blaylock’s unexpected absence. The blend of returning experience and emerging talent sets the stage for a competitive fall.
