South Baltimore Little League eyes state titles after historic district sweep

Five district championships set the stage for ambitious tournament runs across age divisions

A season of dominance

South Baltimore Little League (SBLL) capped a remarkable year by securing five District 4 championships across its baseball and softball divisions, a feat that has placed the organization at the forefront of regional youth sports.

The 8‑10 Baseball All‑Stars are slated to host the Maryland State Little League Tournament beginning this Saturday in Locust Point, where they will enjoy a first‑round bye and await the winner of South County and South Caroline in a Sunday showdown at 11:30 a.m. on Field 1.

Meanwhile, the 9‑11 Baseball squad travels to Kent Island this weekend for its state tournament, while the 10‑12 Baseball team will open its state competition on July 18 at Marty Snook Little League, a gateway to the Little League Baseball World Series. The 11‑13 Baseball tournament is already underway at Arbutus Middle School, where SBLL has advanced to the semifinals.

The 9‑11 Softball team, which returned to the league in 2023 and has grown to 129 players across four divisions, saw its championship hopes end this week, but the expansion underscores the league’s rising popularity.

Though SBLL has never captured a Maryland state title in its 69‑year history, the current crop of All‑Stars is determined to break that drought, rallying volunteers throughout the week to ensure a smooth tournament experience.

Fans can stay updated on daily scores and game highlights through the league’s Facebook and Instagram pages, and live streams will be available via the GameChanger app.
