The University of South Carolina announced today that it has added three-star offensive tackle Clayton Lee to its 2027 recruiting class, bringing the total number of commitments to nine. Lee, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound prospect from West Nassau County High School in Florida, is expected to be shaped by offensive line coach Randy Clements as the program looks to fortify its front line.
Lee's physical presence is matched by his athletic versatility; he also competes in discus throw and shot put for his high school track and field team. His decision narrowed the field to Virginia Tech, UCF and NC State, all of which pursued him aggressively before he chose the Gamecocks.
A Wave of Four-Star Talent
Alongside Lee, the Gamecocks secured the pledges of four-star defensive lineman John Archer, four-star wide receiver Javien Robinson and four-star running back Brayden Tyson. Each brings a distinct skill set: Archer bolsters the defensive front, Robinson combines size at 6-foot-2 and 189 pounds with track speed, and Tyson offers a blend of 6-foot height and over 230 pounds of power paired with surprising agility.
Tyson's commitment came during the "Cocky Palooza" event in May, where he announced his choice over Florida State, Miami, Purdue and Rutgers. He emphasized the balance of size and speed that he believes will translate well to the collegiate game.
Adding depth to the offensive line, South Carolina also welcomed Stetson transfer Vincent Chen, a 6-foot-8, 320-pound lineman who appeared in 15 games for the Hatters. Chen's experience and physicality are seen as valuable assets as the program continues to build a competitive roster.
The influx of talent reflects a strategic push by the coaching staff to attract top prospects from across the country, leveraging relationships with high school coaches and targeted recruiting events. With a mix of size, speed and versatility, the 2027 class positions the Gamecocks to compete strongly within the SEC and nationally.
