Gamecocks add two seasoned coaches
The University of South Carolina announced Tuesday that Kyle Lindquist and Dan Valerio will join the baseball program as part of the 2026‑27 coaching staff. Athletic director Damon Evans confirmed the appointments, emphasizing the duo’s blend of analytical expertise and on‑field experience.
Lindquist, a former senior analyst with the Cleveland Guardians, brings a track record of scouting and player development that helped the franchise capture three straight American League Central titles. A 2012 All‑American pitcher from Marietta College, he will oversee defensive schemes and work directly with infielders.
Valerio, who most recently served as a video coordinator and scout for the Detroit Tigers organization, returns to the college ranks as the assistant recruiting coordinator and field coordinator. Prior to that, he directed recruiting efforts at Wake Forest University, where he helped shape several high‑profile signing classes.
A new era of player development
Both hires reflect the Gamecocks’ commitment to integrating advanced analytics with traditional coaching methods. Lindquist’s background with TrackMan and Blast, two leading performance‑tracking platforms, is expected to deepen the program’s data‑driven approach to hitting and fielding.
Valerio’s playing experience with the Somerset Patriots, Windy City ThunderBolts and Eastside Diamond Hoppers gives him a player‑first perspective that should resonate with current roster members. He holds degrees from Southeastern University and Gloucester Community College, underscoring a blend of academic and practical knowledge.
The additions come as the program prepares for a competitive schedule next spring, with coaches optimistic that the new staff will help maintain the momentum built over recent seasons. Fans can expect a refreshed focus on defensive precision and recruiting outreach as the team looks to contend for a national title.
