Fall Camp Highlights Key Battles
South Carolina’s fall camp has already produced a clear picture of which positions will be contested when the Gamecocks open the season against Kent State.
At quarterback, LaNorris Sellers is entrenched as the starter and is viewed as a potential first‑round prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Behind him, Cutter Woods, a redshirt freshman, and true freshman Landon Duckworth, along with Lucian Anderson III, are battling for the backup roles, with Woods bringing experience and Duckworth generating buzz for his star potential.
Running back depth will rely on a committee approach, with Matt Fuller expected to lead the group, while the receiving corps sees Nyck Harbor as the clear No. 1 option, complemented by Nirto Tuggle and Mazeo Bennett Jr.
Injuries to Jacarrius Peak and Dylan Stewart have opened opportunities on the offensive and defensive lines, forcing the staff to evaluate replacements and consider the impact on rotations.
Seth Smith is slated to start at left tackle, but five‑star recruit Darius Gray could push for a starting spot before the season ends, adding depth to the line.
The defensive front will be anchored by Gabriel Brownlow‑Dindy and Troy Pikes, while Noah Clark, Aiden Harris and Tomiwa Durojaiye rotate to maintain freshness and versatility.
Edge rushers Caleb Herring and Julian Walker headline the pass‑rush unit, with Walker, a true freshman, expected to shine alongside transfer Caleb Herring, who brings SEC experience.
Linebackers Fred Johnson and Justin Okoronkwo are set to start, with Shawn Murphy and Donovan Darden poised to contribute early in the year.
In the secondary, veteran safety Peyton Williams will pair with Vicari Swain, Judge Collier and Quaysheed Scott, while Upton Bellenfant is the preferred kicker and Mason Love is battling for the role; Swain also remains the standout return specialist.
