The South Dakota women's basketball program is entering the 2026‑27 season with a blend of experience and new talent, aiming to build on a 26‑10 record that took the team to the WNIT Fab Four the previous year.
A total of six returners, four transfers and four incoming freshmen will wear the Coyote jersey, creating a diverse mix of skill sets and backgrounds that coach Carrie Eighmey believes can keep the program competitive in the Summit League.
Key Additions
The most notable arrivals are point guard Bri Robinson from Northern Iowa, forward Gabby Jackson from North Alabama, center Latazia Williamson from Kennesaw State and stretch big Ava Miller from North Dakota. Robinson brings a 5‑foot‑8 frame with 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while Jackson earned All‑Atlantic Sun Freshman honors, Williamson contributed 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds, and Miller averaged 7.9 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Freshmen are also expected to make an impact, adding depth and future potential to a squad that will rely on both veteran leadership and youthful energy.
Departures and Transfers
The roster will also see several key contributors move on. Olivia Kieffer is headed to Black Hills State, Grace Peterson and Brooke Jensen are joining Northern State, and Olivia Moore is searching for her fourth school in as many years. Their departures open opportunities for newcomers while preserving continuity with the program’s recent success.
Coach Carrie Eighmey and the athletic department view the movement as a chance to refresh the team’s identity, maintain a high level of competition, and continue the Coyotes’ ascent in the Summit League.
With a schedule that includes matchups against traditional rivals such as South Dakota State and Omaha, the 2026‑27 Coyotes are poised to translate their depth into wins and keep the momentum generated by last season’s WNIT run alive.
