A historic rivalry
South Florida’s men’s soccer team is set to welcome the University of North Florida’s Ospreys for the third home match of the season, a fixture that has become a benchmark in the early schedule.
The Bulls enter the contest with a 1-2-0 record, while the Ospreys sit at 0-2-1, but the historical ledger heavily favors South Florida, which boasts a 4-0 all-time advantage and a 9-1 goal differential over UNF.
Coach George Kiefer, who returns for his second tenure, carries a perfect 3-0 record against UNF, having secured victories in 2015, 2016 and most recently in 2023 at both South Florida and NC State.
Program legacy
Since its founding in 1965, the South Florida program has celebrated six NCAA Tournament victories, the most in school history, and continues to shape talent that reaches the professional ranks, including MLS draft picks Jeff Cunningham, Roy Wegerle and Dom Dwyer.
The match follows a pattern where South Florida has faced teams that previously played Florida Atlantic University, adding a layer of strategic familiarity to the buildup.
Despite a recent defeat on the road against UCF in the War on I-4, the Bulls remain focused, drawing on a tradition of conference championships and tournament appearances that has defined the program for decades.
