Camp Overview
The South Gibson County boys basketball team opened its doors to the community this summer with a week‑long kids camp that blends skill development with pure fun. Children from kindergarten through sixth grade can attend daily sessions that run from 9:00 a.m. to noon at South Gibson High School, beginning on Tuesday, July 14.
The camp’s curriculum focuses on basketball fundamentals — dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive footwork — while also encouraging friendly competition. Hornets players and coaches lead the drills, offering hands‑on instruction and serving as mentors for the young participants.
One parent noted that she chose the camp because it provides a safe, supportive environment where her child can improve his game and build confidence. "It’s more than just basketball; it’s about teamwork and making new friends," she said.
Beyond the court, the program emphasizes sportsmanship, community engagement and personal growth. Organizers highlight that the camp also strengthens ties between the high school athletes and the families they represent, creating a lasting connection within the local community.
The schedule will continue throughout the summer, with multiple sessions designed to accommodate different age groups and skill levels. The camp will culminate in a small showcase where participants can demonstrate the skills they have acquired, giving families a glimpse of their progress.
