The South Rowan Raiders finished the 2025 campaign with a 3‑8 overall record and a winless 0‑7 mark in the South Piedmont Conference, a stark contrast to the program’s recent successes. Head coach Chris Walsh, now in his sixth season, oversees a team that was outscored 412‑162 last year, marking a significant step back from previous years.
A Revamped Roster Brings Fresh Hope
Returning standouts include running back Nic Woolf, who logged 816 rushing yards and ten touchdowns, and linebacker Owen Smith, who tallied 100 tackles and is regarded as the team’s fearless captain. Newcomer Brooks Hunter, a quarterback who completed 22 passes and scored his first touchdown in 2025, is expected to add a dual‑threat dimension to the offense.
The offensive line features guard Brylan Sloop and center Caleb Collins, while tight end Lincoln Carlberg, who transitioned from quarterback, provides a new outlet. Defensively, players such as Grant McGirt and Zein Murray have added size and strength to the line, bolstering a unit that has seen notable physical improvements.
Looking ahead, South Rowan faces a challenging schedule that includes non‑conference matchups against Union Academy Charter, Langtree Charter and Trinity, as well as early scrimmages against Parkwood and High Point Central on August 7. The Raiders will also compete in the Rowan County Jamboree, meeting Wheatmore in Catawba, and are aiming to close the gap toward their 300th program victory within the next two to four years.
