Southampton’s head coach Tonda Eckert finds himself at the centre of a controversy that has sent shockwaves through English football.
The Football Association has formally charged Eckert after investigations revealed that the club had filmed training sessions of rival teams — including Middlesbrough, Oxford United and Ipswich Town — without permission.

The breach led to Southampton’s removal from the Championship playoff final and a four‑point deduction that will loom over the club’s preparations for the upcoming season.
An independent arbitration panel described the scheme as a “contrived and determined plan from top down to gain a competitive advantage,” underscoring the seriousness of the misconduct.
Southampton’s owner, Dragan Šolak, has publicly backed Eckert, insisting that the club remains focused on securing promotion back to the Premier League despite the sanctions.
Eckert has admitted the error and taken full responsibility, and he now has until July 28 to respond to the FA’s charges.
