Southern Conference Announces Weekly Honors
The Southern Conference revealed its offensive and defensive player of the week for the period ending August 24, spotlighting standout performances from the recent slate of matches.
Olivia Bori of Mercer earned the offensive player of the week after a decisive goal and a prolific point total that kept the Bears competitive in a 3‑1 loss to Maine on August 20 and a dominant 8‑0 home win over South Carolina State on August 21. Her four goals and nine points top the conference leaderboard.
Addison Yelton from ETSU was named defensive player of the week, having logged every minute of two shutout victories. The keeper posted two saves in each match, preserving clean sheets against West Georgia and UNC Asheville while his side posted 1‑0 and 2‑0 results.
Looking ahead, Mercer will host Georgia Southern on Thursday before traveling to face Georgia on Sunday, while ETSU heads to Longwood for a Sunday showdown.
Other nominees for offensive player of the week included Samantha Grantham, Reagan Fitzgerald, Sam De Luca, Paige Thomas and Tori Soutuyo, while defensive nominations featured Zoe Santos, Anna Bachman, Alex Parr and Landry Olson.
The recognitions underscore the competitive depth across the Southern Conference and set the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.
