Southern Miss clinches third Sun Belt title in four seasons
Southern Miss captured its third Sun Belt Championship in four seasons on Saturday, defeating Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 11‑7 in the conference title game.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a leadoff solo home run by Seth Smith in the bottom of the first inning, followed by a two‑run blast from Matthew Russo that put the team ahead 3‑0.
Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Grayden Harris took the mound, delivering three innings of work in which he struck out four batters while allowing just one run.
Southern Miss capitalized on the early onslaught, scoring eight runs over the first three innings and never looking back, a performance that also marked the program’s first ever regular‑season title to accompany the tournament crown.
A historic sweep
The 44‑15 finish represents the most successful campaign in school history, underscoring the rapid ascent of the Golden Eagles in the Sun Belt.
With the championship secured, the team now turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament, as regional host sites will be announced Sunday night, offering a national stage for the next chapter.
