The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles opened fall camp on a bright morning, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and clear skies overhead.
First‑year head coach Blake Anderson took the helm, stressing selflessness, low ego and high energy as the foundation of the team’s new DNA.
Anderson reflected on the summer’s organized team activities, noting that the players’ early responses have been encouraging and that the roster now features more than 70 newcomers eager to make an impact.
A New Chapter Begins
Among the fresh faces is sophomore transfer Jaylen Himes, a receiver from Wingate College whose athleticism and potential have already drawn praise from the coaching staff.
The squad will reconvene on Wednesday for day two of camp before turning their attention to the season opener against Alcorn State on September 5, a game for which single‑game tickets and flex plans are already on sale at SouthernMiss.com/Tickets.
