Preseason All-Sun Belt Selections Highlight Golden Eagles' Ambitions
The Sun Belt Conference unveiled its 2026 preseason all-conference teams this week, and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles saw four of their own recognized among the honorees. The selections signal the conference’s belief that the program is poised for a breakout year under new head coach Blake Anderson.
Offensive lineman Broderick Roman earned a spot on the Second Team, while wide receiver A.J. Little matched him on the same tier. Both players bring recent transfer experience, Roman having started every game at center for Eastern Michigan in 2025, and Little arriving from Chattanooga after a productive stint there.
Running back Robert Briggs and wide receiver Kaden Saunders were placed on the Fourth Team. Briggs, who transferred from Utah State, impressed with 304 rushing yards in his inaugural season in Hattiesburg, while Saunders, a former Penn State standout, adds depth to the receiving corps.
The Golden Eagles have bolstered their roster with a wave of transfers and returning contributors who could exceed preseason expectations. Athletic director at Southern Miss expressed confidence that the blend of experience and talent will translate into competitive performances on the field.
Fans in Hattiesburg and across the state are already marking their calendars, eager to see how Anderson’s offensive philosophy will unfold. With the preseason accolades setting a high bar, the team aims to translate early momentum into a successful campaign.
