The Southern University Board of Supervisors recently voted to christen the baseball field at Lee-Hines Stadium as "Roger Cador Field," a tribute to the late coach whose name will now adorn the venue.
Honoring a Pioneering Career
Roger Cador spent 33 seasons steering the university’s baseball program, retiring in 2017 after amassing a 913-597-1 record, 14 conference titles and the development of 10 All-Americans and 62 players drafted into Major League Baseball.
In addition to the naming ceremony, the board announced contract extensions for two of the university’s prominent coaches. Head Baseball Coach Christopher Crenshaw’s agreement now runs through June 30, 2029, while Head Women’s Basketball Coach Carlos Funchess will remain at the helm through 2033, the latter receiving a $20,000 annual salary increase.
The decisions were highlighted during a meeting held in New Orleans, Louisiana, underscoring the institution’s commitment to both athletic excellence and institutional continuity.
