Heatwave reshapes youth football practice
The Southside Seahawks, a youth football program based in Cleveland, have modified their summer training regimen as temperatures climb across the region.
Coach Jamal Sanni explained that the team paused all activities for two weeks during a recent heat wave, using the break to reassess practice conditions and implement new safety protocols.
Usually practicing at Cleveland Central Catholic High School in the Slavic Village neighborhood, the squad now shifts to lighter drills and incorporates frequent water breaks and shaded rest areas when they do meet.
Cheerleading coach Sabrina Fisher highlighted that these cooler interludes also serve as valuable moments for team bonding, with activities like popsicle breaks becoming a fan favorite.
Despite the sweltering conditions, the young athletes remain enthusiastic, eagerly anticipating each session and demonstrating resilience that coaches say bodes well for the upcoming season.
