Each June, Spain Park High School transforms its practice fields into a bustling summer hub as the Jaguars host their youth football camp, inviting children from kindergarten through eighth grade to learn the fundamentals of the game.
Over two days, campers rotate through offensive and defensive stations, engage in dynamic warm‑up drills, and culminate their experience with a friendly scrimmage that showcases their newly honed skills.
Mentorship in Action
Varsity athletes, including senior standout Ben Edwards, volunteer to run each station, offering hands‑on guidance while embodying the discipline and sportsmanship emphasized by the high school program.
Coach Tim Vakakes, who has overseen the camp for several years, describes the atmosphere as “fun for the staff to get to know the younger kids,” highlighting the mutual benefit of the interaction.
Now in its fifth iteration, the camp has become a staple for the Jaguars’ outreach efforts, providing a platform for the football program to forge lasting relationships with families across Hoover and the broader Alabama community.
