Conference Honors Arrive for Spartans
The Big South Conference announced its weekly award recipients on Wednesday, highlighting the contributions of two USC Upstate baseball standouts.
Max Bianchini, a right‑handed reliever from Schaumburg, Illinois, earned the league’s Relief Pitcher of the Week after delivering five scoreless innings across two appearances, striking out seven batters while allowing no runs.
Freshman left‑hander Jacob Kirby, a native of Waxhaw, North Carolina, was selected Freshman of the Week after logging seven innings in his second career start, surrendering just one run while recording five strikeouts.
Both performances helped the Spartans secure a decisive victory in their season‑ending matchup against Clemson, a game that capped a strong stretch for the program.
USC Upstate’s athletic department praised the duo’s impact, noting that the recognitions reflect the team’s depth and the coaching staff’s ability to develop talent.
Looking Ahead
With the season now in the books, the Spartans will look to build on the momentum generated by Bianchini and Kirby as they prepare for upcoming exhibitions and future conference play.
