Michigan State’s men’s soccer team opened its season with a 2‑1 victory over Seattle University on Sunday, improving to a 2‑0 record for the first time in program history.
A Penalty Opens the Scoring
A penalty kick by senior midfielder Miles Merritt broke the deadlock in the 26th minute.
Seattle University answered with an own goal that leveled the match before the Spartans regained the lead.
Debut Heroics
Andrew Darakdjian, making his debut after transferring from Oakland and missing the previous season due to an ACL injury, scored the decisive goal in the 61st minute following a slick exchange between Brandon Munson and Leo Conneh.
The Spartans limited Seattle to just one official shot on goal and outshot the visitors 14‑5, extending a defensive streak that has kept opponents scoreless for the past game and a half.
