Special Jennings to Assist Bahamas Women’s National Team at 2027 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifier

The Jacksonville University head coach brings international experience to the Bahamian squad ahead of the Centrobasket tournament in Nicaragua

Special Jennings, the longtime head coach of Jacksonville University’s women’s basketball program, has accepted a new role that will take her across the Caribbean and Central America.

Under the leadership of Yolett McPhee‑McCuin, the Bahamas Senior Women’s National Team is preparing for the 2027 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifier, a tournament that will be staged in Managua, Nicaragua, from July 12 to 18.

The competition will feature eight nations from Central America and the Caribbean, with the top three finishers earning berths at the 2027 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in El Salvador. The Bahamas open their campaign against the Dominican Republic on July 12.

Jennings is no stranger to international basketball. In 2023 she served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the Nike Hoops Summit, gaining valuable exposure to elite coaching strategies and player development.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to blend local talent with proven tactical expertise, a combination that could position the Bahamas for a stronger showing in the qualifiers and beyond.

A Strategic Addition for the Bahamian Squad

The move underscores a growing emphasis on regional collaboration, as the Bahamas look to leverage Jennings’ experience to compete more effectively against traditional powerhouses in the region.
