On July 17, 2026, the Special Needs Collaborative will transform Bowen Field in Bluefield, Virginia, into a vibrant celebration of Disability Pride Month, marking the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act signed in 1990. The free, family-focused event invites people with special needs and their relatives to enjoy a day of baseball, complimentary meals, and a chance to mingle with local first responders.
The celebration will feature a game pitting the Bluefield Rail Birds against members of the Collaborative, showcasing inclusive play and community spirit. Attendees can look forward to complimentary Snow Patrol Luxury shaved ice, a variety of free food options, and interactive booths that highlight local resources.
Founder Alysha Crawford, who helped organize the day, said she is thrilled to provide a space where families can connect, celebrate achievements, and feel truly seen. “This is a day to honor the resilience and joy of our community,” she added.
