Spotlight on the next generation
SportsCenter NEXT, ESPN’s fresh content and merchandise platform, has tapped two of high school basketball’s brightest prospects as the public faces of its latest campaign.
Kaleena Smith, a 5‑foot‑6 point guard at Ontario Christian School, is the top‑ranked prospect of the Class of 2027, posting averages of 30 points, 7.1 assists, 4.4 steals and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Beckham Black, a 6‑foot‑3 point guard at Southeastern Prep Academy, sits at No. 2 in the same class, delivering 16.4 points, 9.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, and he does so as the younger brother of Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black.
The initiative, which blends interviews, behind‑the‑scenes footage and apparel that celebrates sports culture, fashion and fandom, was described by ESPN senior vice president Kaitee Daley as a way to bring youth culture and sports to life every day.
The merchandise collection, developed in partnership with ESPN Creative Studio, is now available through ESPN’s online store, letting fans purchase apparel that showcases the athletes’ signatures and the SportsCenter NEXT branding.
Beyond the numbers, the campaign underscores a shifting narrative in which high school stars are no longer confined to the court but become cultural icons, influencing style and community engagement as they move toward college and professional pathways.
