Springfield College’s baseball program celebrated a milestone as three of its standouts—Chris Balchius, Josh Mayo and Kyle Mitchell—were selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team, the first time the school has placed three athletes on an all-league roster since 2019.
A historic haul for Springfield College baseball
Under first-year head coach Chad Shade, the team posted a 23-win season, the most victories the program has recorded since 2018, and earned a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since 2023.
Balchius anchored the outfield with a .397 batting average in conference play, tallying 25 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI while maintaining a .977 fielding percentage across 37 games.
Mayo proved equally potent on the mound, posting a 3.83 ERA over 56.1 innings, striking out 53 batters—third most in the league—and delivering three complete games, including a nine-inning win against Wheaton (Mass.).
Mitchell added a .367 average in conference games, driving in 16 runs with two homers and a triple, and his 18 hits helped fuel the offense.
The trio’s recognitions signal a promising future for Springfield College baseball as the program looks to build on its recent success.
