Squalicum High School’s boys soccer team opened its 2A state tournament campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Clover Park on Tuesday.
The opening half proved more challenging than anticipated, as the visiting squad pressed hard but could not break through the Squalicum defense.
The breakthrough came in the 44th minute when forward Maddox Strickland found the net, giving the home side a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, David Leslie doubled the advantage with a well-placed strike in the 53rd minute, extending the lead to 2-0.
Cody McCaulley sealed the win in the 57th minute, slotting home the third goal to make it 3-0.
Quarterfinal Prospects
With the win secured, Squalicum now turns its attention to the quarterfinals, where they will meet Hockinson on Saturday, May 23.
Hockinson arrived at the tournament after a 2-0 triumph over Pullman, setting up a potentially evenly matched contest.
