Funding the future of soccer
St. Louis County Executive Sam Page has unveiled a $14.8 million plan to revitalize the Creve Coeur Soccer Park Complex, using a dedicated portion of the county’s tourism tax to expand its capacity and lower barriers for young players.
The proposal calls for three new soccer pitches, an administrative building that will house locker rooms and a community classroom, upgraded lighting, accessible parking and a new press box. If approved, the complex would grow from its current 13 turf fields and one grass field to a total of 16 fields, enhancing its ability to host regional tournaments.
County officials estimate that the upgrades could draw more than 800 teams and generate upwards of $2 million in economic activity per event, building on the park’s recent record of 1,249 games and more than 14,000 youth participants.
Page said the improvements would make soccer more affordable for families while positioning St. Louis County as a more welcoming destination for sports tourism. The project would take roughly 18 months to complete should the county council give the green light.
Mike Hayers, the complex’s manager, praised the vision, noting that the additional facilities would ease scheduling pressures and allow the park to serve a broader community. Governor Mike Kehoe has also voiced support for initiatives that expand youth sports infrastructure across Missouri.
