St. Xavier’s baseball squad captured the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I regional championship on Tuesday, edging Oak Hills 6‑5 in a tightly contested final.
A Complete Team Effort
Coach Don DiGiacomo praised the Bombers’ unity, noting that every player contributed to the victory. The win marks the end of a 23‑year regional title drought for the program, the last coming in 2003.
Senior standout Dillon Brus, the Bombers’ all‑time leader in steals, delivered a pivotal performance, while Jack Ryan opened the scoring with the team’s first run. Their efforts exemplified the depth and resilience that defined the series.
Oak Hills mounted a spirited comeback, narrowing the gap to a single run in the later innings, but the Bombers held firm. The defeat concluded Oak Hills’ season at 23‑8, a remarkable run that included a strong regional campaign.
With the regional title secured, St. Xavier now turns its focus to the state semifinals, where they will meet Olentangy Orange. A win there would place the Bombers two victories away from the ultimate championship.
The achievement underscores the program’s resurgence under Coach DiGiacomo and highlights the talent emerging from the Cincinnati area’s high school baseball pipeline.
