Stanford Baseball Closes Regular Season with 2-1 Loss, Eyes ACC Championship

A pitching duel and late rally define the Cardinal’s final push before the tournament in Charlotte

The Stanford Cardinal concluded their regular-season slate with a 2-1 defeat to California, finishing the year at 27-25 overall and 13-17 in ACC play.

Mound Mastery

A five-pitcher effort produced 12 strikeouts, highlighted by Nick Dugan’s three-scoreless-inning outing in which he fanned four batters. Relievers Cohen Gomez and Mike Erspamer each added three outs, keeping the pressure on the opposition.

Offensively, Teddy Tokheim delivered a sacrifice fly in the third that put Stanford ahead, and later contributed two doubles and an RBI, underscoring his role as the team’s most consistent power hitter with 18 doubles and 34 extra-base hits this season.

The lineup also featured Cort McDonald’s double in the opening frame and Brock Sell’s team-leading third triple of the year in the third inning. Eric Jeon maintained a hit in each of the three games of the series, while Charlie Bates made his presence felt in the batting order.

A Late Rally Falls Short

California answered in the seventh with a two-out, two-RBI single from Cade Campbel that shifted the lead, and despite Stanford leaving eight runners on base, the Cardinal could not mount a comeback, sealing the series loss.

Looking ahead, Stanford will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the ACC Championship beginning May 19, hoping to carry the momentum from a competitive finish into a title run.
